One of the big advantages of the AHA Camper is that it’s not permanently fixed to your bakkie. You can remove it easily and store it on the off-loading frame when you want to use your vehicle for other purposes.
Here’s the step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Position the Off-loading Frame
- Assemble the off-loading frame and make sure it’s fully secure.
- Park the frame directly behind your vehicle, aligned and level.
- Ensure the fitment frame of the AHA is flush against the off-loading frame — creating one continuous sliding surface.
- Lock the frame in place by fastening its brakes.
Step 2: Stabilise the Vehicle
- Place the vehicle jack under the tow bar.
- Lift it about 10 cm so the shocks cannot move upward.
- This prevents the bakkie from “popping up” when the AHA’s weight shifts during off-loading.
⚠️ This step is often forgotten — but it’s essential for proper alignment.
Step 3: Unbolt and Prepare for Winching
- Remove the two bolts on the bottom left and right (where the AHA is bolted to the fitment frame).
- Remove the two ratchet straps on each side.
- Attach the winch cable to the central bracket at the bottom of the AHA.
- Begin winching the camper onto the off-loading frame, but only about half a metre. Stop here before the next step.
Step 4: Disconnect the Electricals
- Unplug the Brad Harrison connection at the back of the bakkie.
- Once disconnected, continue winching until the AHA is fully on the off-loading frame.
- Use the ratchet straps again to secure the AHA to the off-loading frame.
Step 5: Release and Move
- Disconnect the off-loading frame from the vehicle.
- Lower the jack and release the brakes of the frame.
- You can now safely move the frame and camper to your storage space.
Important Tips
- Always work on a flat, hard, and level surface.
- Once the AHA is on the off-loading frame, remember to fasten the wheel brakes before moving it.
Final Thought
With a bit of practice, off-loading your AHA Camper becomes a quick, straightforward process. Soon you’ll be able to switch between camper mode and everyday bakkie use in no time.
